Description
1865 Plain 5 2C, “-aj” VF20 cleaned to an unnaturally red color with some whitish debris clinging to some of the devices. The E in WE is not strong but is mostly visible. There is an upper reverse wire rim which may have been caused by an uneven strike. This variety shows strong reverse cracks through TATES OF AME with a die chip on the crack between ER. The upper serif of D is a strong outlined type.
